USING A LIFT OR RAMP
Upon request, bus operators must allow passengers who do not use a mobility aid to use a vehicle’s lift or ramp to enter or exit the vehicle. The only reason to not authorize the use of a lift is if:
- The lift cannot be deployed;
- The lift will be damaged if deployed;
- Conditions at the stop would present unsafe conditions for ALL passengers (49 CFR 37.167). Drivers may not judge that a designated stop is unsafe solely due to a passenger’s particular disability. (ADA Section 223).
Please inform the Dispatcher when booking your trip if you need a lift or ramp. If you are using a wheelchair/scooter, you must sit in the device while boarding or exiting the bus. If you cannot climb stairs, you may stand and use the lift/ramp for entry and exit.
